The Thrill of an Overtime Win

By Sycely Wheeles

OvertimeA word that brings nervousness, adrenaline and fatigue to hockey players and fans alike. After three hard-fought periods, the show must go on, declaring a winner in a ruthless round of sudden death.

When faced with their first overtime game of the 2025-26 season, the Seawolves prevailed with a 4-3 upset against the Denver University Pioneers. This marked UAA’s first victory on the road this year.

“Those guys, they have NHL draft picks. You know you’re going to give up scoring chances, but you can’t let mistakes compound,” said defenseman Joey Potter.

With DU ranked #6 in NCAA Division I hockey, the triumph is the Seawolves’ first win against a ranked team this season.

“It was a pretty cool experience,” said goaltender Tyler Krvistov. “It’s always fun to play those big teams.”

Krivstov, now in his second season with UAA, finished Friday’s game with a career-high 46 saves.

“I think it goes along with the team effort. I was doing my job, stopping the puck, and the team was also doing their job, covering guys and having good possession of the D-zone,” Krivstov said, regarding reaching the new personal record.

Returners Aiden Westin, a forward, and Potter on defense, each contributed to the goal tally, bringing the game to a 3-3 tie by the end of regulation. Forward Dimitri Kebreau secured his first goal of the 2025-26 season, earning the team a thrilling win.

UAA ended its first road trip of the season, tying the series with Denver, in a weekend they won’t soon forget. The team returned to Anchorage proud and motivated to prepare for their next venture. The Seawolves departed Tuesday evening for their next road trip, taking on three New England teams over nine days.
